Description:
Keep your aquarium water crystal clear and odour-free with high-quality activated carbon made from sustainably sourced coconut shells. This carbon is steam-activated for superior adsorption performance and manufactured in Australia to ISO-certified standards.
What It Does:
Activated carbon removes:
- Chlorine & chloramine (from tap water)
- Tannins (which discolour water)
- Organic pollutants & dissolved waste
- Odours & unwanted smells
- Medication residues after treatment
It helps maintain a clean, healthy environment for fish, shrimp and plants without altering water parameters.
Why Coconut Carbon?
Unlike most carbon on the market made from coal, coconut shell carbon has:
- Up to 50% more micro-pores – better surface area for capturing smaller particles
- Lower ash content – won’t cloud water or leach unwanted minerals
- Tougher structure – resists breakdown for a longer-lasting media
- Eco credentials – renewable, sustainable, and stores carbon instead of releasing it
How Much to Use:
Use 50–100g per 100L of water depending on your bioload and water clarity needs.
Tank Volume Suggested Amount:
- 50L: 25–50g
- 100L: 50–100g
- 200L: 100–200g
✅Freshwater & Saltwater safe
✅ Safe for shrimp, snails & live plants
✅ pH neutral & reef-safe
How Long It Lasts:
In aquariums, carbon typically lasts 6–8 weeks before needing replacement, you may need to replace sooner if:
- You’ve treated your tank with medication.
- Water begins to discolour or smell.
- Bioload is high or debris is excessive.
*Important Notes*
- Carbon does not remove ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate
- It does not bind copper or heavy metals
- Remove during medication treatment and reintroduce after to remove any leftover meds as carbon may absorb the treatment!, check instructions on the back of your medication to double check.
- Rinse thoroughly before use to remove fine carbon dust
- Place after mechanical filter media (e.g. sponge or filter pads)
Also Used In:
This same high-grade carbon is trusted across industries for:
- Air filtration (odour & VOC removal)
- Stormwater & wastewater treatment
- Chlorine removal for food and beverage facilities
- Aquatic centres and commercial systems
Environmentally Friendly Choice:
Every coconut shell used helps sequester carbon, reduce agricultural waste and avoid the need to cut down trees for traditional charcoal production. By choosing coconut-based carbon, you're supporting a more sustainable, renewable resource that makes use of a by-product that would otherwise go to landfill or be burned.
Unlike coal-based carbon, coconut carbon stores carbon instead of releasing it, making it a climate-smart option for environmentally conscious aquarists. It’s an easy switch that reduces your tank’s environmental footprint without compromising on performance.
Whether you're running a simple planted tank or a complex aquascape, this carbon helps keep your water clear and your conscience clean whilst making a responsible choice for your aquarium and the planet!
