Plants like monsteras, peace lilies, pothos, and philodendrons thrive with their roots in water, absorbing nitrates and other dissolved waste directly from the tank while their foliage grows above the waterline. Some fish keepers even grow strawberries, potatoes, and other edible plants this way, turning their aquarium into a small productive growing system.
The Aquarium Plant Holder clips securely onto the rim of your tank glass (suitable for glass up to 1cm thick) and holds plants in position with their roots suspended in the water. Plants growing out of the top of an aquarium are one of the most effective natural filtration methods available to fish keepers. The roots absorb nitrates directly from the water, which reduces the frequency of water changes needed to keep nitrate levels in check. It also adds a striking visual element to a tank that goes beyond the standard aquascape. Peace lilies and pothos in particular are extremely effective nitrate absorbers and are popular choices for this reason.
Check roots periodically for rot or excessive algae growth and trim as needed. Rinse the holder in old tank water or dechlorinated water during regular maintenance. Replace the holder if the clip loses its grip on the tank rim.
