A Note on Fish Health

If you're here, you're already doing the right thing by taking action. While medications play an important role in treating illness, most common fish diseases are closely linked to water quality and tank management. Maintaining a regular water change schedule, avoiding overstocking, ensuring your filtration is appropriate for your tank size and fish load, and keeping fish in a tank suited to their needs will go a long way toward preventing outbreaks in the first place.

If you're introducing new fish, setting up a hospital or quarantine tank is one of the best habits you can build. Running new fish through a 2 to 6 week quarantine period before adding them to your main tank gives you the chance to observe them closely and treat any illness in isolation, protecting the fish you already have. There's no rush, illness can appear at any point during quarantine, so patience here pays off.
