How The Dynamic Power RGB Aquarium Light Compares

🌈 Dynamic Power RGB LED Plant Light

  • 🌅
Gradual Day-to-Night Cycle: Built-in 24/7 mode transitions through sunrise, daylight and evening lighting instead of switching directly between darkness and full brightness.
  • 🌿
Designed for Planted Aquariums: Full spectrum lighting provides a broad range of light suitable for supporting plant growth while producing a natural-looking aquarium.
  • 🎨
Customisable Appearance: Multiple lighting modes and colour options let you change the appearance of your aquarium and highlight different fish, plants and décor.
  • 🔆
Adjustable Brightness: Manual brightness controls allow you to fine-tune the light output to suit your aquarium and the plants you're keeping.
  • ⏰
Built-In Timer: Programmable lighting periods make it easy to maintain a consistent daily schedule without requiring a separate timer.

💡 Basic Aquarium LED Light

  • ⚡
Simple On/Off Lighting: Basic aquarium lights commonly provide straightforward illumination without a gradual sunrise or evening transition.
  • 🌱
General Illumination: Standard LEDs can illuminate an aquarium, but may offer less control over the light spectrum and intensity for planted setups.
  • 🎨
Fewer Lighting Options: Simpler lights may have limited colour or lighting modes, providing less flexibility when customising the appearance of your aquarium.
  • 🔆
Fixed Light Output: Some basic lights offer limited or no brightness adjustment, making it harder to fine-tune the intensity for different setups.
  • ⏰
May Require a Separate Timer: Lights without built-in scheduling may need an external timer to maintain a consistent daily lighting period.

Why We Stock It

A good aquarium light needs to do more than make the tank bright. We stock the Dynamic Power Plant Light because it gives planted tank keepers a useful balance of plant-friendly lighting, adjustable control, and a more natural day-to-night transition without jumping straight from darkness to full brightness.

The built-in 24/7 cycle is one of the features we particularly like. The gradual sunrise and evening transition is gentler on fish that may be resting when the light comes on, while giving the aquarium a more natural lighting rhythm throughout the day. For planted aquariums, the full spectrum output provides the broad range of light needed to support healthy plant growth while still making fish and plants look their best.

The adjustable brightness, multiple colour modes, and built-in timers also make it flexible enough to suit different aquariums rather than forcing every tank into the same lighting schedule. With a 95cm light panel and extendable brackets, it's a practical option for 100 to 120cm freshwater planted and tropical community aquariums.

Care & Maintenance

Always create a drip loop in the power cord before it reaches the power board or wall outlet. The cord should hang below the level of the power connection, allowing any water running along the cable to drip off at the lowest point rather than reaching the power board or outlet. This is an important safety precaution for any electrical equipment used around an aquarium.

Keep the light and power connections away from splashing water and regularly check that the mounting brackets remain secure. Although the aluminium housing helps manage heat during operation, avoid covering the light or restricting airflow around the housing.

Wipe the light panel periodically with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust, water spots, and mineral deposits. Always disconnect the light from power before cleaning and make sure it is completely dry before reconnecting. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scrubbers, as these can damage the light panel.

If you're using the light for a planted aquarium, avoid running it at unnecessarily high intensity or for excessive periods simply to encourage faster plant growth. Too much light can contribute to algae problems, so adjust the brightness and lighting duration to suit your plants and the overall balance of the aquarium.

When using the 24/7 mode, allow the light to complete its gradual sunrise and evening cycle rather than repeatedly switching it off and on manually. The gradual transition is designed to create a more consistent lighting environment and avoid sudden changes that can startle fish.

If you need to change your lighting schedule or intensity significantly, make adjustments gradually where practical and monitor your plants and algae growth over the following days. Changes in light intensity can alter the balance between light, nutrients, and plant growth, so giving the aquarium time to adjust can help prevent unnecessary algae outbreaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this light suitable for planted aquariums?

Yes. The full spectrum lighting provides a broad range of light suitable for supporting healthy plant growth while also producing a natural-looking aquarium. The red, green, blue, and white LEDs help enhance the colour of both plants and fish, making this light a good choice for freshwater planted aquariums.

What is the 24/7 lighting mode?

The 24/7 mode automatically transitions the aquarium through different stages of the day, starting with a gentle sunrise, moving into brighter daylight, and finishing with blue evening lighting. Rather than suddenly switching from darkness to full brightness, the gradual transition creates a more natural day-to-night cycle for your aquarium.

Is the gradual sunrise better for fish?

It can be. Fish may be resting or hiding when aquarium lights are switched on, and suddenly exposing them to bright light can startle them. A gradual sunrise gives fish time to adjust to increasing light levels and creates a more natural transition between darkness and daytime.

Is the 24/7 mode good for aquarium plants?

Yes. The gradual lighting cycle can provide a more natural progression from sunrise through daylight and into evening. However, plants still require an appropriate amount of useful light each day, so the 24/7 mode should not be considered a substitute for providing suitable lighting intensity and duration for the plants you keep.

Can I adjust the brightness of the light?

Yes. Manual mode provides 10 adjustable brightness levels, allowing you to fine-tune the light intensity to suit your aquarium. This is particularly useful for planted aquariums, as different plants have different lighting requirements. Brightness adjustment is not available while using the 24/7 mode.

What lighting modes does this light have?

The light has 9 different lighting modes, including 7 individual colours, a full spectrum mode, and a colour gradient mode. The full spectrum setting is the best choice for everyday aquarium viewing and planted aquariums, while the additional colour modes allow you to customise the appearance of your aquarium.

How long should I leave the aquarium light on each day?

For most planted aquariums, around 6 to 10 hours of useful lighting per day is a good starting point. The correct duration depends on the plants you keep, light intensity, CO₂ availability, and nutrient levels. If you are experiencing excessive algae growth, reducing the lighting period or intensity may help.

What size aquarium is this light suitable for?

This model is designed for aquariums between 80 and 100cm long. The main light panel measures 75cm and uses extendable mounting brackets to span the compatible aquarium length. Always measure your aquarium before purchasing to ensure the light will fit securely.

Does this light need a separate timer?

No. The light has built-in 6, 10, and 12-hour timer settings, allowing you to establish a consistent daily lighting schedule without needing a separate plug-in timer.

Can I use this light for a tropical community aquarium without live plants?

Yes. While this light is designed with planted aquariums in mind, it is also suitable for tropical community aquariums without live plants. The different colour modes and adjustable brightness allow you to customise the appearance of your aquarium and highlight the colours of your fish and décor.

Where should I position the light?

The light should be positioned securely across the top of the aquarium using the included extendable mounting brackets. Make sure the light is stable and cannot fall into the aquarium. Keep the power connection and controller away from water, and always create a drip loop with the power cord so water cannot run along the cable towards the power board or electrical connection.
