They make maintenance faster, cleaner, and less disruptive to your established media. We recommend them to anyone running a canister filter with multiple media types, and use them ourselves across our own filter setups.
Rinse mesh bags in old tank water when cleaning your filter, never under tap water if they contain biological media as chlorine will harm the bacteria living on the media surface. Replace bags if they develop holes or tears that allow media to escape. The bags themselves are reusable and should last through many cleaning cycles with normal use.
