How the Egg Tumbler Compares

🥚 Aquarium Egg Tumbler

  • 🔄
Provides Controlled Egg Movement: Gently circulates eggs through the water rather than leaving them stationary in one location.
  • 💧
Improves Water Movement Around Eggs: Continuous circulation keeps fresh, oxygenated aquarium water moving around the eggs.
  • 🦠
Helps Reduce Stagnant Conditions: Water movement around the eggs can help reduce the stagnant areas where fungal growth may become a problem.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧
Separates Eggs From Parents: Allows eggs to be removed from the breeding aquarium when artificial incubation is preferred or parent fish may eat their eggs.
  • 🎯
Dedicated Incubation Environment: Gives breeders greater control over where and how developing eggs are incubated.

🐟 Natural Parent Care

  • 🥚
Eggs Remain in the Breeding Tank: Eggs are left with the parent fish rather than being transferred to a dedicated incubation chamber.
  • 🌊
Water Movement Depends on the Parents: Some species fan or otherwise tend their eggs, but the level of water movement depends on the species and individual behaviour.
  • 🦠
Less Control Over Incubation: The breeder has less direct control over the water movement and conditions immediately surrounding the eggs.
  • 🐟
Parents May Eat Eggs: Some fish may consume their eggs, making natural incubation less suitable when the goal is to maximise the number of eggs that develop.
  • 🔧
No Separate Incubation Setup: Natural care avoids the need to transfer eggs and operate a dedicated egg incubation system.

Why We Stock It

Egg tumbling is standard practice among serious cichlid and catfish breeders for good reason. It removes the dependency on parental care during the most vulnerable stage of development and gives you direct control over the conditions the eggs are incubated in. For breeders who've lost batches to fungus or unreliable parents, a tumbler is one of the most impactful additions to a breeding setup.

Care & Maintenance

Rinse the tumbler in old tank water or dechlorinated water between uses. Make sure to remove any unhatched infertile eggs before reuse to prevent mouldy eggs. Clean the acrylic with a soft cloth to maintain clarity and avoid scratching. Check the suction cups periodically to ensure the tumbler remains securely attached to the tank wall. Replace airline tubing if flow becomes inconsistent.
