How the Petworx Aquarium Heater Compares

🌡️ Petworx Aquarium Heater

  • 🎛️
Adjustable Temperature: Allows you to set the desired aquarium temperature rather than relying on a fixed heating output.
  • 🌡️
Thermostat-Controlled Heating: Automatically switches the heating element on and off as needed to help maintain the selected temperature.
  • 💧
Fully Submersible Design: Designed to operate submerged in the aquarium, providing direct heating of the surrounding water.
  • 🐟
Designed for Aquarium Livestock: Provides adjustable heating for salt and freshwater aquarium setups where maintaining a suitable water temperature is important for the fish and other livestock being kept.
  • 📏
Choose the Appropriate Wattage: Available in different wattages so you can select a heater suited to the size and requirements of your aquarium.

⚪ Basic or Fixed-Output Heater

  • 🎛️
Limited Temperature Adjustment: A basic or fixed-output heater may provide less control over the exact temperature you want to maintain.
  • 🌡️
Heating Control Varies: Not all basic heating solutions provide the same level of automatic thermostat control around a selected temperature.
  • 💧
Design Depends on the Heater: Different heating products may have different installation requirements and may not offer the same fully submersible aquarium design.
  • 🐟
May Offer Less Control: Simpler heating solutions can provide fewer options for setting and maintaining the temperature required by your livestock.
  • 📏
Wattage Still Matters: Choosing an appropriately sized heater remains important, regardless of the type of heating solution used.

Why We Stock It

These heaters are reliable, straightforward to use, and available in five wattages covering tanks from 20L all the way up to 200L, meaning there's an appropriate size for almost every setup we sell livestock for. They're one of the most accessible entry points into proper temperature control, and stable temperature is non-negotiable for tropical fish health.

Heater choice matters more than most people realise. A malfunctioning heater can overheat a tank rapidly, and by the time it's noticed the damage is often already done. It's one of the reasons we don't stock generic or unbranded heaters, we only carry brands we trust to perform consistently and safely over the long term.

Care & Maintenance

Always unplug the heater at least 15 to 20 minutes before performing a water change and do not plug it back in until it is fully submerged again. Exposing a hot heater element to air, or running it out of water even briefly, can cause the quartz tube to crack or the element to fail.

Clean the exterior of the heater periodically by wiping it down with a soft cloth during water changes to remove algae and calcium build-up. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scrubbers on the quartz tube.

Check the temperature reading with a separate thermometer regularly rather than relying solely on the heater dial, as all thermostatic heaters can drift slightly over time. If the tank temperature is consistently above or below your target, adjust the dial accordingly and recheck after a few hours and adjust again if needed.

If you ever need to change aquarium temperature significantly, such as raising temperatures during white spot treatment, increase or decrease the temperature gradually at a rate of around 1°C per 1-2 hours. Sudden temperature swings can shock fish and cause additional stress, so slower adjustments are always the safer approach.

Position the heater near a point of water flow such as a filter outlet to ensure heat distributes evenly throughout the tank rather than concentrating in one area.

If the heater shows any signs of cracking, discolouration, condensation inside the tube, or electrical damage, discontinue use immediately and replace it as soon as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which wattage do I need for my tank?

25W for up to 20L, 50W for up to 40L, 100W for up to 60L, 200W for up to 150L, and 300W for up to 200L. For tanks in cooler rooms or during winter, consider sizing up one wattage to ensure the heater can maintain temperature without running constantly.

What temperature range does it support?

16°C to 32°C, adjustable via the external dial. This covers coldwater, tropical, and most marine setups.

Can it be installed horizontally?

Yes. It can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or at any angle using the included suction cup bracket. Positioning it near a filter outlet helps distribute heat more evenly.

Is it safe to leave running all the time?

Yes, it is designed for continuous operation. Always unplug it at least 15 to 20 minutes before a water change and do not plug it back in until it is fully submerged again. Running the element out of water can crack the quartz tube.

Should I use a separate thermometer?

We recommend it. All thermostatic heaters can drift slightly over time, so checking with an independent thermometer periodically is good practice rather than relying solely on the dial.
