Description:
A check valve is a small but critically important piece of equipment for any aquarium running an air pump. Without one, if your air pump loses power, water can siphon back through the airline tubing and into the pump, causing water damage or flooding. A check valve prevents this by allowing air to flow in one direction only, from the pump to the tank, while blocking any reverse flow of water.
This is particularly important if your air pump sits below the waterline of your tank, where the risk of backflow is highest. Even if your pump sits above the waterline, a check valve is inexpensive insurance against the unexpected, and something we recommend to every customer running an air pump.
These one-way non-return check valves from Pet Worx, an Australian company established in 1980, are simple to install. Cut your airline tubing and insert the valve in line between your air pump and your air stone or sponge filter, making sure the arrow on the valve points toward the tank. Compatible with standard 4mm airline tubing. Pack of 12, giving you enough for multiple tanks or setups across a fish room.
If you're running a Pet Worx Single or Twin Air Pump, or any other air pump pairing it with a check valve is strongly recommended.
Suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums.
