Suction cups wear out and lose their grip over time, and having a pack on hand means you're not scrambling when equipment starts sliding down the tank wall. At 20 per pack they're good value and cover most standard setups comfortably.
Clean suction cups periodically by soaking in warm water to restore grip. Replace when they no longer hold firmly to the glass, which is usually indicated by equipment gradually sliding down the tank wall.
